Morrissey signs 2-record deal with Capitol

After he’d all but given up last year to land a deal with a “grown-up” label, it was announced that Morrissey is set to record his first album since 2009’s Years of Refusal.

Recording will begin February 1st in France with producer Joe Chiccarelli at the helm. As if that’s not great news already, Morrissey looks forward to a tour immediately following the release of this record.

The band’s line-up will have Boz Boorer (of course), Jesse Tobias, Gustavo Mansur and the return of the Walker Brothers Solomon and Matt.

I’d love to see you all at either or both of my live DJ appearances this weekend. Saturday night Jan. 25, I’m hosting the Moz Disco once again at Mal’s Bar 2331 S. Hill St. Downtown L.A. Then, the following night Sunday Jan. 26 I’m guest DJ-ing at The Echo for David Bowie night in Echo Park.

See you there, Breakfast Champions.

Morrissey to write a novel?

In a recent Q&A discussion on his website, Morrissey says that due to the success of his autobiography he’s been inspired to write a novel. No word on what it’s about or even when he plans on releasing it.

Morrissey does, however, mention that he’ll be in the studio recording an album of new material with his band and Tony Visconti at the helm, presumably.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Elvis Presley and David Bowie and speaking of the Jean Genie himself, Morrissey says that he had hopes of recording a cover of “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” with Bowie singing Bill Medley’s part. Unfortunately, Visconti was not able to convince his longtime friend.

My tribute band, Sweet and Tender Hooligans, will be in San Diego this Saturday night January 11th at The Casbah.

Thanks for listening, Breakfast Champions.
