Hello again, Breakfast Champions. I took on this radio job at the very same time I jumped on Twitter a little over 3 years ago and I have to say that I love them both immensely. Speaking into a microphone to an audience of I-still-don’t-know-how-many while getting to play the songs from my favorite singer/songwriter still makes think I’m dreaming. And Twitter is the only true pulse I have to get an idea of how many active listeners there are. Twitter and the radio show have BOTH been instrumental in helping cultivate some very great friendships with some very nice people.
Each week, I invite those of you following me @JoseMaldonado to send in your song requests and I’ve been pleasantly surprised at some of the great choices that are made. In fact, it’s those shows with the greater percentages of listener requests that receive the best reaction from you. So, I invite all of you whether it’s here on this blog or the blue bird to request away. You help make the show fun!
In his latest effort to call for an end to animal cruelty, Morrissey has urged clothing company Uniqlo to stop using Australian wool from sheep that have been subjected to a procedure known as “mulesing”. The practice, still widely performed in parts of Australia is a where large knives are used to remove large hunks of skin and flesh from the buttocks of the sheep in an effort to reduce maggot infestation.
He has asked Uniqlo to join with retailers like H&M, Abercrombie & Fitch and The Gap in boycotting wool from suppliers who practice mulesing. Once again, Morrissey speaks out about the cause that he so passionately champions.
Meanwhile, his tour continues and we here in Southern California eagerly await his return in just a few weeks!!
I’d like to thank Julie Hamill @MarriedtotheMoz for her very nice article and interview on her tumblr page. Julie is a young student writer in London and she’s done a series of interviews with Morrissey-related individuals entitled “Fifteen Minutes with…” You can check out the interview she did with me here: http://bit.ly/julham2
