Iggy had his Stooges, Siouxsie has the Banshees, and Kid Creole, his Coconuts. But what about the gentlemen behind our Morrissey? He’s always informally referred to them as Th’ Lads, but is there a name out there that would suit them? The Mozmen? The Quarries?, The Tormentors? I’m sure we could come up with something clever and befitting for Boz, Jesse, Gustavo and the Walker Bros.
Post your suggestions below, Breakfast Champions and thanks for listening.
So many great requests this week. I’m always so impressed when the listenership guides the playlist. You rock, Breakfast Champions.
I’m gonna try to give out AT LEAST one pair of tickets each week to see my Morrissey/The Smiths tribute band Sweet and Tender Hooligans at The Mayan on May 22. That’s our annual L.A. Morrissey Unhappy Birthday show that we’ve held for over 10 straight years.
It’s our biggest show of the year, longest set, guest musicians, and as we do every year, we make a donation from the proceeds of the show to a local animal charity The Lange Foundation, as our gift to Morrissey. Tickets are available through the Mayan website.
Here’s how we’re going to give away the tickets today:
THE FIRST PERSON TO POST A REPLY ON THIS PAGE WITH THE TITLE OF THE 13TH SONG ON TODAY’S BROADCAST WINS THE TICKETS.
SONG NUMBER 13. POST THE TITLE BELOW. GOOD LUCK!
You’re the light heavyweight Breakfast Champion of the World and they are about to announce you as you step into the ring. Or you’re the relief pitcher sent in to close out the 9th inning of the baseball game, the manager has made a call to the bullpen and glove in hand you make your way to the mound. Or you’re a guest on the Tonight Show and Jay Leno is introducing you as the first guest.
What Morrissey/The Smiths song would YOU make your entrance with? Post you comment below by clicking on the title of this caption and I’ll make it your request for next week’s broadcast.
My choice would be “Speedway” just as they fire up the chainsaw.
